House Committee Hears NASAA Testimony

March 30, 2015
NASAA President Joe Wescott (NC) was among several persons testifying before the House Veterans Affairs Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity March 24 in Washington.  NASAA Legislative Chair Tim Freeman (VA) accompanied him at the hearing.

The hearing was a scheduled legislative hearing to deal with a number of bills before the committee, including HR 476, “The GI Bill Education Quality Enhancement Act of 2015.” NASAA had significant input on the development of this bill and strongly supports it.

In his testimony President Wescott said that NASAA “sees its passage as critical to the protection of our veterans and the fair and equitable administration of GI Bill benefits.”  One of the major provisions is the clarification of State approval authority and oversight over all non-federal training programs.  If passed, it would give State Approving Agencies primary authority to approve, suspend, and withdraw approvals.  This would, in essence, restore the SAA authority that was modified by PL 111-377, enacted in 2010.
