ARLINGTON, Va.--
NASAA wrapped up its annual Mid-Winter Training and Business meeting at the Crystal City Marriott in Arlington, VA, on February 10.  The meeting began February 7.

A highlight of the event was a Capitol Hill reception February 10 during which House Veterans Affairs Committee Chair Jeff Miller received NASAA's lifetime leadership award.

Saturday and Sunday, February 7 and 8, were devoted to committee meetings and Region meetings.  The formal sessions opened Monday, February 9, with a keynote address by DVA Deputy Undersecretary for Economic Opportunity Curtis Coy.

NASAA Vice President Dan Wellman (IL), Conference Planning Committee Chair, said this year’s meeting focused on training, with intensive sessions dealing with compliance surveys.  Monday’s agenda also included a panel discussion on “GI Bill Challenges and Opportunities” and an Education Service update by Director Rob Worley.

Tuesday’s sessions began with presentations by NASAA’s Automation and Technology Committee and the National Guard Bureau’s Education Office.  NASAA’s General Session, for members only, followed.

After the lunch break Tuesday, members traveled to Capitol Hill for a presentation by House and Senate Veterans Affairs Committee staff members in the Cannon Building.  NASAA members had time to visit their own Congressional delegation’s offices before the late-afternoon reception in the Cannon Building.

The Mid-Winter meeting concluded with a NASAA Executive Board meeting Wednesday morning.
