NASAA President Participates in American Legion National Credentialing Summit

May 12, 2015
Attendees at the American Legion’s National Credentialing Summit included, from left, Mark Walker, Deputy Director, and Steve Gonzales, Assistant Director, of the American Legion Veterans Employment and Education Division, Angela Albritton, Government Relations Director at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU), NASAA President Joe Wescott, and ERAU Chancellor Brad Sims.

President Joe Wescott (NC) was a panelist for the American Legion's "National Credentialing Summit" held last month in Washington.  The Summit was held at the historic Mayflower Hotel where the GI Bill was drafted by Harry Colmery in December of 1943.  The event was to discuss licensing, credentialing and certification of servicemembers and to examine best credentialing practices in the private sector that recognize the military training and experience of veterans in the job market.  Wescott presented NASAA’s views on licensing and credentialing and the important role that State Approving Agencies have in assessing the quality and appropriateness of exams, credentialing programs, and prep courses.

While in Washington, Wescott also participated in meetings with Senate and House Veterans Affairs Committee staff, majority and minority, VA Education Service Director Rob Worley, VFW, SVA and other senior VSO and Congressional leadership.
