Legislative Director Joe Wescott (NC) testified for NASAA at a Senate Veterans Affairs Committee hearing September 16.  Wescott was asked to provide testimony on several bills impacting veteran’s education including two sponsored or co-sponsored by Senator Thom Tillis from North Carolina.  Those bills, which NASAA supports are S. 1460 (Brown/Tillis), the “Fry Scholarship Enhancement Act of 2015,” and S. 1938 (Blumenthal/Tillis), the “Career Ready Student Veterans Act.”

Wescott also spoke in support of draft legislation which will clarify and codify the SAA approval role and improve oversight of educational institutions that are approved for the GI Bill educational program.  He concluded his testimony by pledging to the committee that state approving agencies would not fail in their critical mission “to safeguard the public trust, to protect the GI Bill and to defend the future of those who have so nobly defended us.”
