NASAA Members,

The National Association of State Approving Agencies (NASAA) and the State Higher Education Executive Officers Association (SHEEO) are pleased to announce a joint partnership signed on March 17, 2022. With this Memorandum of Agreement, both organizations recognize several opportunities for collaboration with a shared goal to promote and safeguard quality education and training within our states.

SHEEO serves the chief executives of statewide governing, policy, and coordinating boards of postsecondary education and their staff. NASAA represents State Approving Agencies (SAA) that represent a state-federal partnership that allows federal intent to be carried out at the local level while preserving the identity, interest, and sovereignty of state’s rights in education. SAA organizations are housed in various state agencies, with SHEEO agency placement being second to Veterans Services Agencies.

Initially, the two partners will share general information about the specific SHEEO and SAA roles within states, learning how state authorization and SAA approval align and what the differences may be. We will collaborate in learning how our two organizations may play a role in strengthening the approval process and oversight of non-accredited facilities.

As the partnership grows, we will continue to share updates and will remain open to ideas and suggestions to strengthen our partnership.

Sincerely,
Michelle Hill-NASAA President
